Kindled Not Forgotten

There are moments when someone else enters the room—and warmth gathers around them like a halo. You sit nearby, quietly holding your flame, wondering if it flickers too faintly to be noticed.

Comparison creeps in: Do they shine brighter? Are they more loved? Did my spark go out?

But the truth, beloved, is this—God does not rank flames. He kindles each heart individually. The one who seems surrounded isn’t more deserving—just as you, even in quiet, are not less worthy.

In the Old Testament, God used fire to mark moments of presence—burning bush, pillar of flame, altars ablaze. Each one was intentional, sacred. And your soul, even if overlooked by others, is one of those moments. You are lit with purpose. No spotlight can increase it, and no silence can extinguish it.

"Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning? Those who walk righteously..." (Isaiah 33:14b–15)

Not all fire destroys. In God's kingdom, the fire refines and embraces the righteous.

God of every sacred spark,

When I feel small next to another's glow, remind me: You see me. You know me. You kindle light in me no one can snuff out. Help me walk in the warmth of Your truth, not the chill of comparison. If others are embraced, let me rejoice—and trust You are not finished with my story. Make me brave enough to burn without applause, faithful enough to shine without envy, and tender enough to love without condition.

In Jesus' Name,

Amen.
