God's Grace by Charles Clevenger

Sometimes I neglect to say "Thank You Lord,"

For the blessings He sends my way

God expects me to be faithful,

But sometimes I go astray

Sometimes I assume it's "all about me,"

And I think I can go it alone.

But God has a way of waking me up -

Reminding me He is still on the throne.

Sometimes it takes a knock at my heart

To remind me God is in control.

That's when I pause in thanksgiving…

For just the knowing - it is well with my soul!

God truly loves me - it's plain to see,

He blessed me in so many ways.

His Grace is sufficient - this I know;

To Him, each day, I give thankful praise.

This poem reminds me of the song 'It Is Well With My Soul.' The last part of the first verse in the song states, "Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well, with my soul.".

When I feel the twinge of anxiety in my stomach, I'm learning to take a deep breath and say, 'it is well with my soul, God is good, God's grace is sufficient, and God loves me.' If you're unable to say these words or feel these words any more, may I suggest praying for God to restore your first love of Him? Ask him to restore the joy you had upon first accepting his gift of salvation. This life has a habit of distracting us, and we need to take time daily to reflect on God and his grace. Focusing for a few minutes daily on God will keep him the center of our lives, precisely where he wants to be.
